Snowboard Life’s Top 25: Tester Profiles

It didn’t take long for the “Aussie Agitator” to start trading good-natured barbs with the more fun-loving members of the test team, easily holding her own amidst the fast-flying braggadocio. Amy carried that same devil-may-care attitude onto the mountain, riding aggressively as she explored each board’s potential. Amy travels from her native Australia every winter to call Mammoth her winter (or is it summer?) home away from home. When she’s not cracking dry-witted jokes or testing snowboards, this fully certified AASI instructor is teaching folks how to ride in the Mammoth Mountain Snowboarding School.

Wendy Powell

Groomed in Colorado and currently laughing along with the rest of the people living in snow-soaked Tahoe, pro-snowboarder Wendy Powell made the drive down from North Lake to participate in the Top 25. Wendy’s a finesse freestyle/freerider with plenty of experience scrutinizing snowboard performance, including working on her own pro model with a former sponsor. Her gift for design also comes in handy while creating clothes and outerwear. A strong all-around rider, Wendy demands versatility from a snowboard-whether she’s dissecting the steeps or lofting gracefully out of the pipe.

Randy Price

Breckenridge, Colorado’s Randy Price was all business when it came to testing snowboards. Stoked beyond belief for the opportunity to sneak-preview this year’s best freeriding models, he rewarded us with maximum effort and enlightening feedback. Randy’s a veteran snowboard teacher, and spends his winters training the American Association of Snowboard Instructors’ best and brightest in the Rocky Mountains. All those days spent on the hill also makes him a valuable test case for the sunscreen industry, but that’s another story. A light, quick rider, Randy can both carve and boost with stylish aplomb.

Jason “J2” Rasmus

Pro-snowboarder Jason Rasmus (better known as J2) takes his freeriding with as many lumps as possible, constantly searching out hits, rails, and logs to bust loose on. Chosen to represent the freestyle element of the freeriding equation, J2 did just that, making a run through the park a mandatory part of his all-mountain testing. Originally hailing fromĀ Nueva York, J2’s vibe is all city-down to his gold rope chain and black Corinthian leather snowboarding jacket. But don’t let the act fool you, this Vail loc can ride.
