BX: Dixon Takes Women's Boarder X
by Shanti Sosienski

Saturday was supposed to just be a practice day for snowboarders competing in Sunday's halfpipe and big air, but like most contests, things didn't go exactly as planned. Due to technical difficulties the men's boardercross finished just before dark, causing the women's to be delayed until the following day.

Finally by noon on Saturday, the women were able to run. There were four heats of six. The light was incredibly flat and the fresh snow made the course difficult in certain places. In the end K2's Tina Dixon pulled through to take the gold.

"It was all about wax today," said Dixon with a smile. "The course was really slow in the middle and there were moguls at the top. I just slid the moguls on my butt and then when I had a chance I pushed through to first."

The soft snow was both a blessing and a curse for riders. POwder runs could be had on the top of the course and it never really got too icy, however, riders with the wrong wax didn't stand a chance.

Also looking strong in the course throughout the day was Katrina Warnick from Salt Lake City.

"My strategy was to just get to the bottom. You had to pump the course as hard as you could, and there was a step up, you take off lower and pump up onto it and slide off," said Warnick.
