NEWS:
Daniel Franck and Fabian Rohrer were on the list to show, but who would really expect them to come over from Europe to perform in a Corporate American circus for a paltry $5,000 dollar first place prize. Daniel just won $30,000 a few weeks ago in the biggest prize halfpipe ever. He got second to Terje, who won $100,000.
Trevor Andrew also decided to bag the X Games, must have been because he was too busy trying to decide which contract he should sign. Burton, Salomon, Burton, Salomon...it's a tough call.
Salomon rider Frank Wells was seen stomping around the perimeter of the X Games halfpipe mumbling things like "shoot me now" and "at least you all can vouch to my sponsors that I was here." The halfpipe looked like something that was cut with a dull, serrated kitchen knife. It was barely a one hit wonder, unless you were Guillaume Chastagnol from France, a very potential X Game halfpipe winner. John Sommers was pulling some nice huck-and-flops in the crappy pipe. They were big and they looked like they hurt.
Speaking of hurt, Nicola Thost was expected to be out for the rest of the games after landing on her back during one of her runs in the slopestyle finals, however, she bounced back the second day and made the halfpipe finals.
Jennie Waara was stomping as usual, but she still wasn't pleased with her performance. "I think my preliminary runs were much better," she said. Yeah, whatever, she's taking home a golden X Games necklace.
Barrett Christy, Megan Pischke, Jeff Brushie, Jennie Waara, and Blaise Rosenthal were all riding their new pro models and they all looked like they were enjoying their rides.
Goggle team managers win the award for being the most present team managers. Managers from Arnette, Smith, Scott, Dragon, and Oakley are all here offering technical goggle support to their riders. Guess snowboarders haven't learned how to change their goggles yet.
Bryan Iguchi and Andy Hetzel both are proud new homeowners. This has nothing to do with the X Games, but you might as well know that. Guch bought a place in Jackson Hole, WY and Andy in Tahoe.
BJ Leines did a lot of gardening today. His favorite foliage? You got it, the face plant. Maybe he should see if RED wants to sponsor his fragile melon. Brother Eric was on the scene, but didn't compete in the Slopestyle.
Nicole Angelrath is at the X Games and will be riding halfpipe during the competition. If you've missed her this season it's because she has been in France the last six months stomping on grapes at her parents vineyard. If you want to see her pulling a huge method in the mainstream media, pick up a copy of Conde Naste Women's Sports this month. Also featured in the fashion snowboard shoot is Jennie Waara, Minna Hesso, Shannon Dunn, Tina Basich, and Megan Pischke.
Barrett Christy has a stylish new pair of glasses that could start a serious trend in snowboarding. Jamil Khan and John Sommers are both going for the long-haired granola boy look. Peter Line has reverted back to the mid-90s died black hair these days.
