The US Olympic Snowboard Team (unofficial)
by Shanti Sosienski

The unofficial results are in for the US Olympic team and at this very moment the USSA is sitting in room 102 at the Mammoth Mountain Inn putting together the final team. There are some predictables going to Nagano and then there were some surprises, especially today in the GS.

The decisions are being made behind this door. Ooooohhhhh. Power.
The GS team is made up of: Chris Klug, Mike Jacoby, Adam Hostetter, Rob Berney for the men. For the women: Rosie Fletcher, Sondra Von Ert, Betsy Shaw, and Lisa Kosglow.

The halfpipe team (aka freestyle snowboard team) appearing in Nagano will be: Ross Powers, Todd Richards, Ron Chiodi, and Bjorn Leines. For women: Michele Taggart, Cara-Beth Burnside, Shannon Dunn, and Barrett Christy.

Now the tough decision for the board is that there are only fourteen spots for the sixteen qualified riders. According to Tom Kelly, vice president of public relations for USSA, the procedure says that the USSA board will meet to decide who should go to Nagano.

"The decision is based on past events that the fourth has been in and their ability to get a medal in Nagano," said Kelly.

Basically this means two people are going to be bumped from the team. The people sitting in fourth currently are: Rob Berney, Lisa Kosglow, Barrett Christy, and Bjorn Leines.

"I have been secretly assured by several officials that we have nothing to worry about," said Nick Calavito, Lisa Kosglow's coach. "Lisa is going to Nagano."

BJ Leines and Barrett Christy both said they weren't banking on the spots, but would be happy to go. BJ told SOL, "They'll do something to ruin it for me," but still had a smile on his face all afternoon.

Stay tuned to final interviews from the official announcement.
