THE TOASTERS - HARD BANK FOR DEAD
Release date: 6/1/97
Review: Angel Bennett

It's hard to believe that The Toasters have been goin' at it for nearlyfifteen years, but it is indeed the truth. This, their sixth full-lengthrelease, comes at a time when ska is once again enjoying wide, enthusiastic audiences. This may be the fourth wave of ska, but The Toasters still manage to keep it fresh for their fans, albeit fresh in an old school kind of way. The title track, "Hard Band For Dead", is The Toasters' version of the song by the trailblazing sixties ska artists, Prince Buster, and there's also a nod to rock 'n roll great Chuck Barry. First class work by the band and added sparkle from a host of guest appearances by some of ska's legendary artist puts this release at the top of the heap.
