yup yup yup, mammoth opening day was super fun. lots of kids showed up at the halfpipe. and lots of good riding was had by all. it was a super fun day. but towards the end, it got super cold, and started to snow. so most people went home. but snowboarding just kicks ass in general....

I'm from San Diego, and as soon as my friends and I heard about opening day, we knew we were going. The long seven hour drive was tedious, but as soon as we hit the first run we knew it was worth it. The snow was sick, even though there was some high winds at the top of the Broadway express. Sunday was the better day of the two. The snow was awesome, and through the trees and some of the closed trails we found a few hits. A few times on the way down, the snow would kill your face without a face mask, but we survived. I hope to visit Mammoth several more times before the season is over. Caillin Brown, San Diego, CA

Some fun first rides to start the season, and the USSA judges' clinic brought me to Mammoth on Nov 6-8. Putting aside the politics of the IJC vs. USSA and FIS (see www.solsnowboarding.com/compete/ijc_11398.html), everyone in our "unsanctioned and unqualified" group just seemed to have the benefit of the sport at heart, and wanted to help provide more resources for quality judging. The rumor that the pipe might close probably resulted from our plans to hold an open competition on Sunday morning to practice judging standards. Anyway, there was too much fresh snow and the pipe had to be rebuilt that day so it didn't happen. We just had to go freeride some runs...darn! Hope everybody has a good season this year.

We had a great time opening weekend. Eight inches of fresh snow covered the mountain and the Andersons and friends were going off in the pipe. Anyone else make the trip?
