PR: Top Canadian Riders Slide Into Banff to Vie for $10,000 Purse
(February 17, 1998)

Banff, BC - The Kokanee Kross Grand Nationals BoarderCross series promises two days of intense competition at Banff's Mount Norquay, Saturday, February 28 and Sunday, March 1, 1998. Mount Norquay will host some of Canada's top snowboarders for the second of four stops in the world's longest running BoarderCross snowboard tour.20

The Kokanee Kross Grand Nationals showcases the future of competitive snowboarding. Considered for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, Boardercross challenges both the Alpine (hard shell boot) and the Freestyle (soft shell boot) riders equally. Six riders simultaneously race down a specially constructed course that features jumps, bumps, banked turns and other challenging obstacles. There are no judges or timing and the first rider to cross the finish line in the last race takes it all.

As title sponsor, Kokanee is leading the nation with their dedication and commitment to the sport of snowboarding. "This winter promises to be the most exciting and action -packed race season that the country has ever seen," says Kokanee's Marketing Manager, Aidan Tracey, "BoarderCross is a perfect fit with Kokanee. It is unique, fun, and is a great way to see the Alberta lifestyle and attitude brought to life."

Pro riders will compete for a $10,000. cash purse and Amateur riders will compete for great prizes from Kokanee, Airwalk, Swatch, O'Neill, and more. The competition is open to anyone 18 years of age and over, in pro and amateur, men and women's categories. Registration is $40.00 for Amateur and $80.00 for Pros. Helmets are mandatory.20
