PR: LXD, Inc. Announces Final Confirmed Schedule
For 1997 -98 ESPN Freeride Snowboard Championships
(September 5, 1997)
Malibu, Sept. 5, 1997 -- Paul Taublieb, President of LXD, Inc., announced
the final schedule for the 1997-98 ESPN FreeRide Snowboard Championships.
"We're going to three world-class mountains for this season's FreeRide tour,"
said Taublieb. "Our triple header will start with Aspen Mountain, which for
the first time will be open to mountain-wide boarding throughout our event,
then to Killington Ski Resort, jewel of the East Coast, and we wrap our
championships at a truly core snowboard mountain, Sierra-at-Tahoe, where
the FreeRide kicked off last year."
"The FreeRide is back and bigger than ever with a total purse of $250,000,"
added LXD Chariman/Co-President, Austin Hearst. "We're thrilled to be working
with our partner ESPN on this tour which will result in an unprecedented
six hours of ESPN1 coverage. As part of this effort, LXD and ESPN will also
be bringing sponsorship to the United States Amateur Snowboarding Association,
including a one-hour program on espn2 covering the USASA's National
Championships."
Regarding the FreeRide, Event Director Jeff Grell added, "It's our goal to
make these three events the most fun and competitive in the entire snowboarding
world." Taublieb added, "Most importantly, besides the quarter million in
cash, we're going to be giving out the coveted flaming disco ball trophies
-- Palmer is still pissed he doesn't have one, having lost to Hetzl in last
year's BoarderX."
