Val d'Isere/France Halfpipe
Results
(December 18, 1996)
The early morning skies promised a lot of sunshine and there it was during
the whole time of the qualification runs! A beautiful scenery and all the
"big names" on the starting list assured a perfect Halfpipe contest at "La
Face", the famous downhill slope of the 94 Olympics! Yet, for the best 8
girls and 16 boys the day was not finished with sunset, as they were qualified
for the night final, a spectacular event in the middle of town with more
than 300 spectators. The winners of the first Halfpipe event in Ischgl last
week, Daniel Franck (NOR) and Minna Hesso (FIN) certainly belonged to the
favourites here in Val d'Isere and could - partly - live up to the expectations.
Minna won again, just ..... points ahead of Nici Pederzolli (AUT) who could
step up to the podium for the first time this season. 3rd came in Anita Schwaller
(SUI) number 4 in the current ISF world ranking.
Jean-Baptiste Charlet (FRA) fed the hopes for a French success here in Val
d'Isere, as he was leading after the 1st run. A fall in the 2nd run foiled
his victory and he had to give way to Fabien Rohrer (SUI), the winner of
the Air & Style contest in Innsbruck this year! The 3rd place goes to
Markus Hurme the 18 years old Finn, 2nd in the ISF Junior World Championship
1995.
Next event here in Val d'Isere: Tomorrow qualification (11am) and Final (7pm)
