The annual gathering of the world's leading free riders/skiers takes the term "free riding" to the edge. Over 70 boarders and skiers will take to the Southern Alps in three days of Helicopter accessed competition with Back Country Helicopters.

The three events are the Rip Curl Extreme, Chinese Downhill and Freeride. And closing with the spectacular action of the Streetstyle Big Air in downtown Wanaka.

In its 4th year, the Heli Challenge is one of the Southern Hemisphere's main events. Following on from last year success, the '98 Rip Curl World Heli Challenge will be an amazing event. The Qualifying Events will be held at Coronet Peak on the 26th July and at Cardrona Alpine Resort on the 5th August.
