Competitors Brave Blowing Wind and Rain to Compete for $10,000 in Cash and Prizes.

January 19, 1998 - Vancouver, BC - Despite blowing wind and torrential
rain riders persevered
and a full field hit the slopes of Mount Seymour, BC, for the first of the
four race Kokanee Kross Grand Nationals BoarderCross( series. Over 180
participants provided some exciting action as they vied for $10,000. in
cash and prizes.
The course, designed of a series of bumps, airs, spines, berms, jumps and
banked turns, delivered. It proved a challenge to some of Canada's top
snowboarders, with several of the top pro riders falling prey to its
design.
Today's winners include Drew Neilson of Vernon, BC, who won the Men's Pro
category and $2,250.00 in cash, while Sherry Newstead, also of Whistler,
took the Women's Pro category and a purse of $1,250.00. The Men's Amateur
category was won by Ian Beer from Whistler, BC, and Sarah Hasek from North
Vancouver, BC, won the Women's Amateur category.
The Kokanee Kross Grand Nationals BoarderCross( series continues across
Canada with a total series purse of over $55,000. in cash and prizes.
Next
stop is February 28 & March 1 at Banff/Mount Norquay, Alberta, then on to
Horseshoe Resort in Ontario for March 14 & 15, ending at Blackcomb
Mountain, BC, with the Grand Nationals Championship April 9,10, & 11.
