Pulp Magazine Hosts Boardfest at A-Basin Charity contests with the word "board" in them are a dime a dozen these
days, however, June 1 and 2 a new kind of board was introduced into the contest
circuit--wakeboards.
Boardfest, the two day skate, snow, and water event with music in the evenings
was held at Soda Lakes in Lakewood, Colorado and at A Basin in Summit County.
The contest offered snow, skate, and wakeboarders a chance to win over 30,000
dollars in prizes and cash. Proceeds were donated to Oneday, a non-profit
organization that provides services for children with AIDS.
"Megan [Pischke] and I had never wakeboarded before," said overall winner
in the pro women's division Barrett Christy. "We were out there with these
pro wakeboard women. It was great." It must have been for Christy who walked
away from the event three thousand dollars richer after placing first in
snowboarding and fourth in wakeboarding.
Of the 184 registered competitors, sixty-two registered in wakeboarding.
"What a blast wakeboarding is," said pro snowboarder Megan Pischke. Overall
second and third place in the women's division went to Andrea Gaytan and
Gayle Kakac. In the snowboarding portion, second and third went to Megan
Pischke and Janet Antram.
In the men's division Billy Anthony placed first overall with Sean Murray
placing second, and Kevin Delaney in third. The men's Pro snowboarding winners
were Dave Dowd placing first and Mark Frank and Billy Anthony in second and
third place.
