2001 ESPN Winter X Games Return To Mount Snow

By Press Release

September 26, 2000

Mount Snow resort, a leader in alternative winter sports, announced it will once again host the ESPN Winter X Games, the world's largest winter alternative sports championship. The fifth annual Winter X Games are scheduled for February 1-4, 2001.

The Winter X Games features the talents of more than 350 international athletes competing in snowboarding, snowmobile snocross, skiing and snow mountain bike racing. The 2000 Winter X Games at Mount Snow shattered attendance records, outdrawing all other Winter X Games combined.

Mount Snow's proximity to major metropolitan areas in the East -- just four hours from New York City and 2.5 hours from Boston -- makes it easy for spectators across the country to come enjoy the Winter X Games. The Mount Snow Valley offers 150 lodging properties, over 50 dining establishments and a wide range of activities for all ages. The nearby towns of Brattleboro and Bennington, Vermont offer additional lodging accommodations, dining and activity options.

Under the terms of a four-year agreement signed with American Skiing Company (NYSE: SKI) last year, the Winter X Games will be held for two years at Mount Snow (2000 and 2001) and subsequent Games (2002 and 2003) will be held at American Skiing Company resorts to be named later.

Last year's Winter X Games awarded medals and prize money for Snowboarding (Slopestyle, Big Air, BoarderX and Superpipe, men and women); Skiing (SkierX for men and women, Ski Boarding for men), Snow Mountain Biking (BikerX for men and women), Snowmobile Snocross and UltraCross (ski and snowboard combined event).

The Winter X Games will be televised beginning February 1 on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC with more than 18 hours of original programming. The Games are telecast to an audience of more than 20 million viewers in the US and millions more in 180 countries and territories worldwide.

The 2001 ESPN Winter X Games at Mount Snow will not interfere with regular daily operation for skiing and riding. The resort will remain open to all guests. However, like last year, the resort recommends guests plan to arrive early to avoid traffic. Both mountsnow.com and xgames.com will host special areas on their web sites for the most up-to-date information on the Winter X Games.
