Powers, Mokler Win Cont. Cup Pipe
By Press Release

March 30, 2001

NEWRY, Maine (March 27) - A long week full of competition at Sunday River Resort finished up Monday as Ross Powers (S. Londonderry, VT) and Alisa Mokler (Mammoth Lakes, CA) won a Continental Cup superpipe contest.

The event came on the heels of the X-Nix U.S. Snowboard Championships, which also double as the Chevy Truck U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix Finals.

Powers, the '98 Olympic bronze medalist, blew out the field with a first run score of 41.00. U.S. Snowboard Team rider Ricky Bower (Park City, UT) took second with a 36.70 and Luke Wynen (Reading, PA) was third with a 35.60. The winning run was a typical winning run for Powers. Big straight airs, clean spins and stuck landings gave him the victory.

Mokler won the women's contest hands down with a score of 34.20 over Megan Klammer (Mammoth Lakes, CA) with a 28.50 and Canadian Marie-France Noel, who posted a 19.80. Not only was Mokler's second run the cleanest of the day, but she was the lone female to air over the lip of the superpipe consistently.

The Continental Cup was a good chance for athletes to pick up important FIS points. Powers walked away with 450 points and Mokler took 50.
