Hunter S. Thompson could have been describing Jeff's raison d'etre in a January 29, 1958 letter addressed to Mr. Arch Gerhart of the Louisville Male High School when he wrote, "Frankly, I have no taste for either poverty or honest labor, so writing is the only recourse left me."
