Arlie John Carstens is a professional snowboarder who rides for Bonfire Clothing, Smith Optics, and Salomon Snowboards. He's been shredding the rad since he was 12 years old. His home mountain is the Alpental Ski area in Washington State. In addition to hucking stunts for cash, he's also a travel writer, essayist and photographer. He plays music and tours the U.S. and Europe in the very loud, sensitive math-rock band Juno. We record for the D.C. label DeSoto Records and Seattle label Pacifico Recordings. "I heart the punk rock."
As a writer and athlete, he's worked with the likes of Raygun, Bikini, CMJ Music Monthly, Mint Magazine, Transworld Skateboarding, National Geographic Adventure, Blunt, and The Copper Press. He's also a frequent contributing travel-writer to a few international snowboarding magazines, including but not limited to TransWorld Snowboarding Magazine and Snowboarding-Online.com.
His favorite colors are blue and black. He reads books, eats the red snapper fish and vegetables often. He drinks coffee because it's delicious and life is too long. Though this bio isn't very funny he likes funny places and smart-sarcasm (smarcasm?). "I like art. I like people who enjoy sharing new ideas and experiences (Mike "Tex" Davenport and Christopher Walken come on down!)," he says. "I enjoy being helpful. I also enjoy crime- so whatever. I won't get drunk with you but I will drive you home. My father was a hound dog. My mother was a rattlesnake. My sister is an angel. I was for a time a devil with a halo. I will be Lazarus. I like ladies who were born in the woods (foxes?). Stay fresh."
