Switch Step-In Review: by Mark North |
Switch's Axel Pro boot ($249) fits cozy and snug, with absolutely zero heel-lift. Internal Velcro straps, external laces, and ratcheting ankle strap offer a range of support from kinda flexy to downright rigid. Forward lean comes from an internal highback controlled by a ratcheting strap that crisscrosses the rider's calf. |
| Like most step-in boots, it's heavy, and the sole is stiffer than you might like (you need that for quick response, though, with most of the sole in direct contact with the board). |
| If the Axel, or Switch's Gomez (freeride) and Valencia (freestyle) don't suit your liking, no worries--Switch offers the widest range of compatible step-in boots, through licensing agreements with Raichle, Nice, Niedecker, Exo, Gordo, Heelside, Vans, Fila, Flexible, and Northwave.
| The Autolock 750 ($199) features 4X4 and 3D compatibility in a lightweight binding with a new Narrow Bale configuration that makes it easier to step-in. |
