Transworld's Forever Young Prom 1996 |
Twist Snowboard Shop 1st Anniversary Party The Gathering Of The Goddesses II |
| The invitation said, "In the tradition of sleepless nights, bad dates,
and one night stands, you and yours are cordially invited to the prom forever
young at the Julliette Ballroom of the world-renowned Pea Soup Anderson's
in Carlsbad, CA on April 4, 1996. Join us in a last ditch effort for that
elusive prom you missed in high school."
Well, no one threw up on the dance floor. And as far as we know, not one virgin was deflowered in the back seat of a large American sedan, but it was a fun little romp just the same. To get the full flavor of the prom you have to know a little about Pea Soup Andersons and the gastro-intestinal distress it can cause. Let's just say the soup is of the same color, texture, and consistency leaving one's body as it is going in. Luckily, for the nearly 200 prom goers TransWorld didn't serve any soup. But alcohol flowed, people danced, and no one went home before midnight. The gathering was an out-growth of advertising sales guy Chad DiNenna's annual spring party. Only this time TWS footed the bill, paid for the band, and bought a bunch of little cheese squares and veggies. Along with the TransWorld marketing and editorial staff were Twist's Lisa Hudson, Jack Coghlan from Ride, Debbie Murphy from Neptune, Roger Sgarbossa and Kim Boyle of Swag, Wing Lam, the Lava Magazine guy, Jamie Briggs and Jason Kanes from Joyride, The President of Times-Mirrors The Skiing Company Brian Sellstrom and his wife, Larry and Louise Balma, Andy Hetzel, Circe Wallace, Russel Winfield, and a host of hotties on the arms of others. With all those people there it seems like something out of control would have gone down. But it didn't. As one reveler said, "The dirty elements just weren't there so it wasn't as much fun as usual. None of the Black Flys guys and girls showed up." In fact, with the exception of Andy Hetzel and Circe Wallace macking in the wings, TWS Photo Director Jon Foster falling to the floor with his snappy cam strapped neatly to his belt, and an extremely pregnant Stacy Swift winning the title of Prom Queen, there were no incidents to report. It was fun. We partied. Then we all went home. Check out the party photos in the Industry Photo Archive and it'll almost be like you were there. |
