Mammoth Snow: Firm, But
Good.

Opening weekend carve

Everyone on the mountain said we should have been here yesterday, and we
agreed.
Snow that was fresh on Friday was pretty tracked out by the time we arrived
at 9:00 AM, on Saturday. What was left was a firm mixture of man-made and
natural, although I'm guessing it was a little more on the man-made side.
The firm snow made it perfect for everyone out on carving boards. Photographer
Brad Peatross came out to lay down some fine lines on Stump Alley.

Mammoth Snowboard Park
Opens
If this is you, e-mail us.
You took off before we
could get your name (not.
that we even tried).

Considering they only have three feet of natural snow, the Snowboard Park
at Mammoth is rocking with one big gap, three smaller gaps, a spine, and
table top or two.
In fact, shape wise it's almost as good as it was last spring. Thanks to
warm temperatures, however, it's pretty darn icy: especially in the morning.

Mammoth Mountain Cave
Man
David Fitzpatrick,
the man of the mountain. Just don't
let him near your pet Wooly Mammoth.

"Mammoth, yeah. I love this place, man."
Ready to slay a mastadon or slam a Budweiser at a moments notice, Mountain
Man David Fitzpatrick was just happy to be out on the snow. You know, those
mental facilities can get a bit boring.
"I work in a Nuclear reactor," he said. "But then, you can probably tell.
I'm also a licensed cosmatologist and I've worked it out so I can be here
all winter to ride."
We decided that further conversation would only confuse, if not anger this
savage man so we ran away.
