Moran Takes First Heat In 250 Snowboard Division

Hundred-plus degree heat, a lot of dust, and way too many people on the motocross track and they were off. At ten a.m. the opening heat of the Morrow Motocross Dirt Flyer Challenge began.

Burton rider Jim Rippey, num-
ber 22 slams into the hole shot
in the first heat of the 250
beginner class.

Competing in the first division was beginning racers like Jim Rippey, Kevin Delaney, Monty Roach, Nitro's Kirk Zack, Burton's binding guru Chris Doyle, Rob and Neil Morrow, and more.

The race started off with a few slackers off the line and Jim Rippey charging first with Steve Squig's in at a close second, and Chris Doyle in third. Rippey took the lead for most of the first half of the race dropping most of the pack with the exception of Squig who held on at a distant second.

About halfway through the race Rippey went down in the tunnel after clearing the whoop-de-doos which gave Squig a chance to close in and pass Rippey. The rest of the race was a close battle between Squig and Rippey, who fought hard to take the lead again but never quite recovered from his fall.

The most impressive bail of the day by far was Rob Morrow who went down in a full front flop, flying out of the course into the flagging. Rob quickly recovered and found his way back on to the track and placed third from last.

The final results of the first heat were: first place Steve Squig, Second Jim Rippey, third Monty Roach.
