What Is The ASR Show, Anyway?
September 7, 1996
San Diego, CA

Two-Edged Hobie Board
Silence Goes Graphite
Basically, the Actions Sports Retailer show is a trade show where shop owners buy all the clothes, skate decks, bikinis, and accessories that they're going to sell next summer.

That means it's a great place to check out all the new stuff from all the dope So Cal companies. But there are two downers. One, it's only open to retail shop owners, not the general public, and second, it's not the best place to check out next year's snowboard stuff because truthfully, there aren't that many snowboard companies who show at the ASR anymore. This has more to do with the buying cycle of snowboard companies than it does with the show being lame.

Most of the major snowboard companies are comletely sold at by this time of year, so the only companies who do this show are the one who may not have had their boards together last March for the SIA show in Las Vegas, or new companies who are getting a head start on the 1997 selling season. Others show here to help out their retailers, make sure everything is going well for the season, and to see if they need to make any reorders

Over the next two days we'll be cruising the isles looking for cool stuff. When we find it, we'll throw it up right here.
