Helmetize: Preventitive Medicine Against Headaches
All it takes is one fall or one wrong turn and splat, your melon cracks open. Im not talking about a cantaloupe in your pack, but the fragile command center sitting atop your neck. Head injuries are no joke; whether youre in the trees, a rocky chute, carving hardpack, or even on the main trail, every run you take is laden with risk. And while your favorite beanie may make you feel invincible, its no match for a ponderosa pine or a chunk of granite. A helmet is the only way to really protect yourself from a potentially fatal head injury.
The question isnt whether or not you should wear a helmet, but which helmet should you wear. Todays snow lids are light, comfortable, and come in a wide variety of styles and colors. Choose a helmet that fits you perfectly, so you wont even notice it while you ride. Its a good idea to bring in your goggles to make sure they fit well in the helmet you likesome wider goggles may need a more open-cut helmet.
Heres a selection of some of the helmets out there. Go to your local shop and check them out, or call the manufacturer directlytheyll be happy to send you a catalog and answer any of your questions. Ride safe, have fun.
