Best Event 1998/99: Swatch Boardercross World Tour at Laax, Switzerland

The Swatch World Tour finals in Laax, Switzerland are more of a cultural happening than a contest. This single event embodies the spirit of boardercross–competition, music, and partying–more than any other, year after year. It wasn’t the sheer atmosphere of the Swiss (or is it swill?) soirée that beat out the other venues this year, though. Top riders more often mentioned the long and technical course, where the subtleties of exceptional riding could make a difference. Laax will again be the can’t-miss finale of the Swatch tour, taking place on April 13—15, 2000.
