I set my alarm clock for music instead of the buzzer. I sing in the shower. On the drive to work, we listen to Shem’s eight-disc changer. At work I listen to MP3s on my computer. I play music while making dinner and when I’m going to sleep. I like music.

Whether I’m doing an interview, asking a question for the In The Mix column, or simply trying to get to know someone, I usually first ask, "What kind of music do you listen to?" I think the music you listen to says a lot about you:

Blink-182 = today’s punker

Method Man = dizzity dope

Alanis Morissette = hear me roar

Slayer = tough

Marilyn Manson = confused

Phish = high

Limp Bizkit = dumb

Brittney Spears= plastic

Merle Haggard = American

I listen to a lot of Tom Waits, Motorhead, Willie Nelson, Minutmen, The Ramones, and Frank Zappa. I also own some Jewel, Heather Nova, Liz Phair, The Cure, Sarah McLachlan, and Dire Straits CDs. What does that say about me?

Sometimes I wish our magazine had a soundtrack like all the snowboarding videos I watch. But then I realize it’s better that we don’t, because if it did and you were reading it in class or at work, someone might hear the mag, then you’d be in trouble for "experiencing" TransWorld SNOWboarding and not doing your work. Lord knows we don’t want any trouble!
