In The Mix

September 1, 1998

Jamie Lynn:

"The challenge to learn new tricks is essential for my progression in snowboarding ... but doing that trick in a way that feels good and natural is where the importance is."

Mike McEntire,

a.k.a. Mack Dawg:

"As far as tricks go, this year's highlights include Peter Line's backside rodeo 7s, Mike Michaelchuck's backside rodeos and double backflips in the pipe, J.P. Walker's extreme jibbing, Noah Salasnek's precision lines, and Terje's gigantic airs at Gothenburg, to name a few.

"Every year there seems to be fewer new tricks, but that is the nature of a maturing sport. Now the progression of snowboarding comes mainly from the refinement of existing tricks with regard to size and style. There is definitely a lot of progression going on as riders get more calculated and cleaner-with perfect stomps all over the place!"

Nicole Angelrath:

"There are so many new tricks I should be learning right now! I'm actually trying to get over the stupid fear of everything that hit me two years ago. It's slowly working-yoohoo!" [Nicole hurt her shoulder a while back, but you'd never know it if you saw her do an air to fakie in the pipe.]

Coming next month-frontside 3, more tricks you should know, and loads of info. May all your ollies have clean pops!
