Doug Byrnes Memorial

November 5, 1999

A lot of memories flood in when I think about the time that I was lucky enough to spend with Doug Byrnes. The devotion and love Doug had for snowboarding, and life in general was real. For 9 years, Doug showed me the way to remember the fun of what snowboarding is. That chapter may be over, but for the rest of my time here on earth I’ll let Doug’s spirit lead me. Eventually, I plan on seeing Doug again, and I wouldn’t want to let him down.Alexei Garick

Douglas Alexander Byrnes’ early departure lasat July, left the snowboarding world shocked. He was only 27. He played soccer, competed in swimming, skated, founded a band called Pressure Release and deejayed around New York and New England.

Doug loved snowboarding most. He helped produce videos, contributed photos, was a driving force behind Eastern Edge , worked at Stratton, competed in World Cup competitions, and had recently been touring through the States and Asia as a sponsored rider for MIA.

Our deepest sympathies to Doug’s family and all of his friends.
