Chuck Allen Accepts Position
At New Mountain High
Edited by Robyn Hakes<> (7-13-98)
(Press release, July 13, 1998)—Chuck Allen, a longtime leader
in the nation's snowboard and surf industry, has made the move to the New
Mountain High. As of July 6, Allen has begun developing the resort's snowboarding
presence as the director of snowboarding and special events. His duties
include coordinating and producing all events and promotions, securing
sponsorships, and developing new snowboarding programs.
Allen's involvement in the snowboarding industry dates back over a decade.
In 1988 he founded the United States Amateur Snowboarding Association (USASA)
with hopes of developing the sport through competitions and scholarship
programs. Since then, the USASA has become the largest snowboarding organization
in the world with 32 conferences and over 4,000 members. Prior to that
Allen was a co-founder of the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA),
which recently celebrated it's twentieth anniversary. Most recently, as
Bear Mountain's snowboard and marketing manager, Allen brought prestige
and recognition to the resort by not only attracting large-named events
but by generating exposure through smaller competitions. "A simple
halfpipe event looked bigger than the U.S. Open," says nowboard competitor
Micha Stepanion.
Allen's goal is to put the New Mountain High on the snowboarding map.
Through a combination of promotions and public relations, he plans to offer
guests an added value as well as raise the level of participation throughout
the entire sport. "He's probably the region's most influential [snowboard
marketing] figure and a perfect candidate to help accentuate the resort's
growth," says Brad Wilson, director of marketing.
