Winter Sports, LLC Acquires Winterstick Trademark
by John Stouffer 11/10/98
Despite rumors this season, Winterstick snowboards will be delivered to shops in
the next couple of weeks. The trademark for the original backcountry brand has been
bought by Winter Sports, LCC from its previous owners. Winter Sports handle the shipping,
sales, and marketing for the brand from here on out.
"We're happy to see such a great brand continue and the early response from
dealers and distributors has been outstanding," says Mike Oyen, finance director
for the company.
Qualified dealers will be receiving the orders they placed last spring. The line
remains the same as shown at that time, with models such as the Severe Terrain,
All-Mountain, Cirque, Mirror, Wasatch, and Retro.
"Of course, we will also continue the famous powder performer, the Swallowtail," says
Oyen. "The rest of the line will continue to be focused on big-mountain freeride boards.
We also have plans for a complete line of backcountry performance products."
Aiding Oyen with running the brand will be John Bush as vice president of marketing
and sales, Steve Reinehr serving in the role of sales manager, while Eric Tietje will
handle marketing.
Following the backcountry heritage of the company, Winterstick will be putting on
three avalanche clinics this season. They will be held at Marin Boardsports in
Larkspur, California on January 21; Milo Sports in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 29;
and at the Patagonia store in Denver, Colorado on February 4.
Winter Sports administrative and sales offices will be located in Sausalito, California
and the company will maintain a shipping and R&D; service center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
