TICKET TO RIDE
(FLF Films)
Shanti Sosienski
(September 06, 1997)

Riders: Marcus Egge, Josh Dirksen, Jason McAlister, Ross Peterson, Travis Yamada, Kevin Jones, Rocket Reaves, Tom Gillis and others

Comments: It's hard to believe that winter is already almost here, but after previewing FLF's new film "Ticket To Ride," the nearness of a new snowboard season became a reality. The movie premiered Friday night September 5, 1997 at Spreckle's theater in San Diego.

A good sized crowd of over a hundred showed up for the new film which starred riders like the Bachelor "dorks" (you gotta see it to know why they are called the dorks): Marcus Egge, Josh Dirksen, Jason McAlister, Ross Peterson, and Travis Yamada; Tahoe riders like Kevin Jones, Rocket Reaves, and Tom Gillis, and a handful of others.

The first descent opener woke up the trade show weary crowd with charging music and a perfect life-threatening Alaskan drop. But unlike most films out there where the music continues and the images blend from one to another Ticket tried a new approach. Interviews with the riders about their experiences with snowboarding and with one another were spliced in between segments.

This attempt to diversify a snowboard video was executed quite well as the viewer not only gets the epic shots, but also learns more about the pro. Big names made up all of the shots throughout the movie, but the riders were chosen well and definitely offered various types of snowboarding from Todd Richards' well-known pipe acrobatics to Rocket Reaves busting as big as ever in Alaska.
