Snowbird to Launch Innovative Site October 27, 2000
Snowbird, Utah - Booking a complete ski package at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort is only a click away thanks to an innovative site set to launch Tuesday, Oct. 31.
In addition to online reservations, the overhauled www.snowbird.com flash-enabled site will feature live web cam images from several locations on the mountain, lift ticket and season pass sales, featured athletes, equipment rental and retail merchandise sales. "Anything you could ever want to know about Snowbird or Little Cottonwood Canyon is on this site," said Snowbird Web Facilitator Liz McDonald, who has spent the last year creating the cutting-edge ski resort website with the help of Universal Internet.
Snowbird's new site is 50 percent larger than the two-year-old site that will be retired appropriately enough on Halloween Eve at midnight. The launch will include two phases - the first of which will include dozens of new pages and features. Live Snowbird images are scheduled to be online mid-November. The second phase, scheduled for the second week of December, will include more live images, a roommate finder for employees, a grooming report and upgraded weather links. A text-only version of the site will be available for hand-held computer (PDA) users.
"We were on the cutting edge when we launched snowbird.com three years ago," said Snowbird President/COO Bob Bonar, "this new site will once again thrust Snowbird to the forefront of resort industry web technology."
For several months now, journalists have been able to download press releases, press kits and high-resolution photos from the snowbird.com site. With the new site, journalists will have these same options but will also be able to view Beta video footage of the scenic resort and check out the latest vacation planner as well as national and local advertising.
The first camera to provide 24-hour live footage of the resort will be mounted atop the Cliff Lodge and afford 360-degree views of Snowbird and Little Cottonwood Canyon. The second camera is scheduled to begin providing images from 9,215 feet outside the Mid-Gad Lodge in January. Located just 29 miles from Salt Lake City International Airport in the heart of the Wasatch Mountains, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort is one of the most accessible all-season resorts in the world. Snowbird receives an average annual snowfall of more than 500 inches and offers over 2,500 skiable acres of the Greatest Snow on Earth. Snowbird also offers a nationally recognized mountain resort spa and award-winning conference facilities and restaurants.
