Mountain High Opens In SoCal

By Press Release

November 2, 2000

Earliest opening in Mountain Highs History

Wrightwood, CA November 2, 2000 Southern Californias 2000/2001 ski season officially begins tomorrow, Friday, November 3rd, with the opening of Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood. Not only is the earliest opening in Mountain Highs history, but it marks the fourth year in a row that the area has been the first to open in Southern California.

Says Karl Kapuscinski, Mountain Highs General Manager, To this date, our earliest recorded opening is November 7th, back in the late 80s. We are extremely excited to be the first local resort to open again and hope that this early start is a good indication of the season.

Three trails will be available tomorrow making one top-to-bottom run of mostly intermediate terrain. Lift tickets will be just $25.00 for adults and $12.00 for children, ages seven to twelve. Children six and under ski free when accompanied by a paying adult. Resort operating hours are now 8:30am to 10:00pm weekdays and 8:00am to 10:00pm weekends.

Complete food and beverage facilities and rental equipment will be available tomorrow however Ski School lessons will not be offered due to the limited terrain.

Aggressive snowmaking and a 20% increase in the system were greatly responsible for the early start. The incremental capacity enabled the resort to cover trails more quickly and will ensure better snow conditions during the 2000/2001 season. Unbeknownst to most, Mountain High is home to one of the largest snowmaking systems in the country and can cover over 95% of the mountain with manmade snow.

With Santa Ana winds in the forecast, snowmaking conditions should be exceptional and the mountain expects to open more terrain the near future. For more information or to schedule an interview, please contact John McColly at (760) 249-5808, ext. 231.
