Park City Open's Utah's First Halfpipe

By Press Release

November 15, 2000

Park City, Utah -- On Friday, November 17, 2000 Park City Mountain Resort will open its popular PayDay Half-Pipe. The PayDay 'pipe is the first halfpipe to open for the 2000-01 Winter Season in the state.

"We made a commitment it get our halfpipe and other terrain features open as early in the season as snow conditions would allow," said Jeff Frost, events and snowboard manager at the Resort. "With the recent favorable storm patterns, and more importantly, temperatures in the optimal range to make snow, we were able to build and open the 'pipe even earlier than we had dared hope."

The PayDay halfpipe is built to ensure optimal conditions for both recreational riders and competition. In this spirit, a variety of events will be held at the PayDay "Pipe throughout the season, including a series of Night Jams on December 29, January 12 and 26, February 9 and March 9, as well as the third annual King of the Wasatch slopestyle event on February 11.

Several other new features are scheduled to open in the coming weeks as part of the Resort's heightened commitment to snowboarding and freeskiing. By December 15th, the MountainCross course is due to open. Located on the Blanche Run, the MountainCross course offers head-to-head competition over a course of berms and banked turns similar to a boardercross. Admission to the MountianCross is $6 for two runs, and free to season pass holders. By late December, Park City Mountain Resort will also open two terrain parks: a Play Park on the PayDay Run, and for more experienced skiers and riders, the Super Park on the Sitka Run.

For up-to-the-minute ski and snowboard conditions at Park City Mountain Resort, call 1-800-222-PARK (7275), or visit the Resort online at www.parkcitymountain.com .

Park City Mountain Resort, rated a top-ten ski and snowboard resort by the readers of Skiing Magazine, is the official venue of the men's and women's alpine giant slalom competition and all snowboarding events of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
