Vermont, Colorado Get Snow
October 8, 2001
Three Ski Areas Are Turning White
Start dusting off the snowboard tucked under your bed, the snow is starting to fall around the United States. This past week, three resorts announced a visit from the white stuff, some of it natural and some man made.
Riders hit it at Killington today. | The first trace of winter made its appearance last night at Stowe Resort in Vermont. While the resort received only small amounts of snow, people are getting excited for the winter. "Im looking outside right now, and all I see is white," says Liz McCarthy, public relations for Stowe. Traditionally the resort opens around November 19, and in spite of the early snowfall, this year looks to be no different.
Word from Burton headquarters in nearby Burlington is that although theres not quite enough snow for boarding, employees were planning a snow skating session in the Bolton Valley area. Other resorts around the country trumped Mother Nature this week and busted out the snowmaking guns. Loveland Ski Area in Colorado has been consistently receiving overnight lows in the twenties and began snowmaking last Wednesday night. Killington in Vermont began blowing snow just last night. Colorado resorts are known to fire up the snow guns early for pre-season riding, but Killington is the first East Coast resort to make snow this season.
There is no word how the early snowmaking will effect opening day for either resort.
