THQ and MTV Announce MTV Sports: Snowboarding'; First Ever MTV Sports Game Is Scheduled for Release Holiday 1999

August 9, 1999

CALABASAS, Calif.--Aug. 9, 1999--THQ Inc. (Nasdaq/NM:THQI) has signed one of the founders of extreme sports to create the ultimate snowboarding experience for the PlayStation.

"MTV Sports: Snowboarding," developed by Radical Entertainment, combines all the highlights, tricks, crashes and personality that define the action sports category with the events, programs, celebrities and, above all, the revolutionary bands that have made MTV one of the strongest brands in the world.

"Snowboarding has come to be defined by the unexpected: boarders make their mark in new and inventive ways with unique moves and surprise tricks in every competition on every run," said Michael Rubinelli, vice president, development, THQ.

"Our goal is to invoke that same feeling: players will have the ability to create their own personal style and design their own runs with the all new `Create-A-Park' feature. This complete experience is delivered to the sounds of today's hottest bands."

"MTV Sports: Snowboarding" takes enthusiasts to five distinct mountain resorts around the world. Players can choose from one of six unique lifestyle riders and compete in five different events including "Slopestyle," "Halfpipe," "Freeride," "Mountain X" and "Big-air" contests.

With a trick library of more than 46 moves that can be integrated into hundreds of combos, boarders can truly create their own unique riding style. The revolutionary "Create-A-Park" feature gives players their first chance to construct their own mountain course -- from positioning jumps and rails to placing hazards. "Create-A-Park" courses can be saved to Sony Memory Cards.

MTV: Music Television is the first 24-hour video music network. Since its launch in 1981, MTV has become an international institution of pop culture and leading authority on music boasting more than 9,000 affiliates and more than 71 million subscribers.

THQ's exclusive four-year agreement for MTV Sports video games includes worldwide rights to publish video games based on MTV: Sports and MTV Sports and Music Festival branded franchises as featured in such programming as Isle of MTV, Spring Break and Winter Programming. In addition, MTV and THQ are working together to identify potential MTV talent and music to be part of MTV Sports video games.

MTV Networks, a unit of Viacom Inc., owns and operates five cable television programming services -- MTV: Music Television, MTV2: Music Television, VH1, Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite, and TV Land -- all of which are trademarks of MTV Networks. Information about MTV and MTV2: Music Television is available on MTV Online, on America Online (Keyword: MTV) and the World Wide Web (http://mtv.com).

THQ Inc. develops, publishes and distributes interactive entertainment software worldwide for a variety of hardware platforms including PC CD-ROM, and those manufactured by Nintendo and Sony. The THQ Web site is located at www.thq.com.
