In the most hyped boxing match in the snow/skate industry Shaun Palmer "The
Cadillac Kid" was to take on Simon "The Green Menace" Woodstock, however,
as the date approached it became apparent that Palmer would not be able to
fight because of an injury he got in a fight earlier in the week.
According to promoter Jimbo Morgan, the Palm heard some noise outside his
Menifee, California home. The rest of the story was told and retold in the
isles of the SIA Trade Show in Las Vegas. Some believed it and others called
it a convenient way for Shaun to get out of fighting Woodstock.
Morgan says Shaun woke up to hear one of his neighbors banging on the side
of his truck. Shaun told the guy to cut that shit out and the guy came up
to the house and told Shaun that he was going to kill him. "The guy was drunk
and his eyes were nearly nodding off," Morgan said. "Shaun said he saw the
guys eyes close so he knew he was going to have to pop him. Shaun threw a
right punch and dropped the guy were he stood."
In the process Shaun got several teeth stuck in his hand and was unable to
box in the match. Cyco Miko Muir, lead singer of Suicidal Tendancies and
Infectious Grooves picked up for Palmer.
Woodstock was confident and relaxed during the pre-fight press conference.
With video rolling and camera's firing away he explained the problem with
Palmer. "The truth is that getting in the ring and boxing takes something
extra," he said. "And Palmer doesn't have it."
Mike Muir got into the match because he heard someone say the word fight.
"I was at the show and I heard what happened with Shaun," Muir said. "They
said the word fight and that's something I'm always up for."
So, with Palmer ringside nursing a beer and his bandaged right hand, Woodstock
and Muir entered the ring wearing 16 ounce gloves and headgear. After an
introduction by the annoying prop comic Carrottop and a kiss from one of
the busty ring girls Simon took it to Muir. He landed the first punch and
remained in control for all three rounds. In the second round Simon knocked
Muir down twice. The second nearly knocked Muir out of the ring.
By the third round it was obvious that Simon's six months of training paid
off. As one guy in the crowd said, "Woodstock is a real boxer. He's a boxer."
At the end of the fight the crowd chanted for one more round, but Simon bowed
and began unraveling his taped hands. The music began pumping and the crowd
started dancing.
We're still waiting for the rematch. It probably won't happen, though.
The event was sponsored by Vans Shoes, Wahoos Fish Tacos (Damn good) and
