Rider Buried Under Avalanche Near Alta
(December 28, 1996)

Snowboarder Dies In Deep Tahoe Snow (12-24-96)
PR: College Scholarships to Be Offered at Sugarloaf/USA Competition (12-19-96)
The body of missing snowboarder Greg Dres, 36, of Deer Valley was recovered Saturday. Dres apparently became the victim of an avalanche, possibly started by himself.

Authorities believe he triggered the snowslide as he rode down Flagstaff Mountain.

Rescue workers found Dres still attached to his board under 5 feet of snow. Dres wore an avalanche tranceiver which enabled searchers to locate his body above Alta Ski Resort.

This was the second snow related death to a snowboarder in one week. Joel Busath, of Sacremento, CA. who had been reported missing on December 23 was found dead after he presumably suffocated beneath several feet of snow. (See Related Story)
