Free CD's are all good. And considering that, Freaks of Nature, a new sampler from Warner Bros. Records is pretty darn good. It features 17 songs from 17 bands including Porno For Pyros, Biohazard, Filter, Schleprock, Soul Coughing, Regurgitator, Failure, Ditch Croaker, and Rockers Hi-Fi.
I was happy to hear nearly all the songs. Standout's include Soul Coughing's "Soundtrack to Mary," a lose, gravel-voiced groove that lives up to the word the band's been getting lately, Ditch Croaker's moody "Hebba Ho," and the techno outfit Rockers Hi-Fi with One With Another. Getting the free CD, and it is worth looking for, will be a little more interesting. Jack Turner, a ski area consultant and man about the mountain's pulled this deal together to help ski resorts more efficiently market to us, the snowboarders of the world. What the resorts have done is sponsored the production of the CD so they can give it away free at their mountains. This means that the only way to get one of the CD's is to visit one of the following mountains and ask for Freaks of Nature:
