The season is getting underway. Duh. Everyone stateside is headed for the ESPN Freeride contest in Aspen Dec. 5-7 (cause we're the official website of course...stay tuned)and we're getting packed and ready for some live coverage.

Stay tuned to the Compete section because we'll have coverage of the ESPN Freeride, the 1998 American Snowboard Tour, the 1998 US Grand Prix, and the Olympics. Yep, we're bringing it all home live.

Until then here is what's going on in the world of SOL:

THE FALL
Da-Du Da-Du and another one bites the dust. Yeah, it's a Queen song, but it's also the latest anthem in world of small ski areas as they get bought up by multi-million dollar ski corporations and are "upgraded." Jeff Galbraith reflects on the fall of the family resort and what a shame it is to let these go.

GEAR UP
Gear guy Chris Hansen reviews three new accessories just in time for the busiest shopping day of the season.

CYBER SHOP
Speaking of shopping, have you checked out SOL's cyber shop. Every snowboarding product need can be filled with a simple click of the mouse. Snowboards, boots, bindings, outerwear, and other goodies are on sale 24 hours a day.

STAT CHECK
As the Olympics get closer and closer snowboarders are hitting the competition circuit hard. See how everyone is doing in Europe on the FIS World Cup tour. Find the results here first.

KIWI SPRING
As winter kicks in here it's spring in the land that made kiwis a popular fruit. Check out Elliot Rock's update on the conditions in New Zealand.

GOOD READ
Tired of snowboard mags? Looking for something entertaining to read while flying home for Thanksgiving? Pick up the latest issue of Icon, the new "thougtstyle magazine for men." While we felt "thoughtstyle" was a bit of a pretentious way to say "check us out," it's an excellent read. See what Lee Crane had to say about it.
