Snowbird Opens GadII Lift To Snowboarding Notes From The 1996 Congress Of The FIS |
| Snowboard Judges and Friends:
The coming together of many sanctioning organizations in the US has effected a great transformation in how snowboarding will be developed in the future. As judges we need to prepare for the impending alteration to guarantee that we as professionals have the highest skills for all levels of competition. It is important that we gather as many snowboard judging professionals as possible for a Judging Symposium to be held at Mt. Hood Meadows, June 26-30, 1996. Please note that this is a change from the previous schedule to take advantage of the halfpipe competition and Bordercross event to take place at Mt. Hood Meadows that weekend. This Symposium is open to any current National or International snowboard judge. Time is of the essence to make sure that the judging is done the best way possible and I envision my colleagues from different nations and organizations of the FIS, ISF, and their respective NGB's to be involved by sharing information and ideas for this very important time in Snowboarding. As snowboard judges we always need to develop and refine a higher degree competency and skill level as well as giving the riders a better way of determining the quality of their performance. We need to look at all systems, all criteria's and all formats to develop the best approach for judging snowboarding. We also need to take an active role on how pipes are built and how build quality Bordercross courses. I encourage you to attend the judging symposium for all voices are needed to make the transition and work towards perfecting a judging system to be ready for the 1998 Olympics in Nagano Japan. All Judges are welcome and I look forward in seeing judges from all over the world to hopefully attend. Please call or fax (970) 476-7195 for information and registration. An outline for the Symposium is included for your review.
INFORMATION CONCERNING THE PROGRAM The Judges Symposium for all sanctioning organizations is designed to upgrade skills, promote professionalism and develop a cohesive information among judges. The format is going to have three distinct areas of development. These include; a session on trick identification; rules, criteria and format; Halfpipe construction, development and maintenance and Bordercross course development and maintenance. We will use video and video presentation as well as work on snow evaluating and discussing the various elements of judging including criteria formats and descriptions of the difficulty of various maneuvers. Also included will be an interpretation of judges responsibilities, a description of contest situations and actual halfpipe judging. Symposium schedule could be subject to change due to a variety of factors...final agenda will be distributed upon arrival.
