World Famous Exposure-O-Meter� Year-End Award Extravaganza!

Forum�s Bjorn Leines is the world�s most photographed snowboarder.

All year long the all-knowing, all-seeing World Famous Exposure-O-Meter� (WFEOM) has toiled in the dingy, flooded-out basement of TransWorld Media, waiting for this very moment. Now, with the final issue of the season on the newsstands (Snowboarder�s summer issue), the truth can be told.

How It Works

The WFEOM scoured every issue of TransWorld SNOWboarding�s Volume Thirteen, Snowboard Life�s Volume Five, and Snowboarder�s Volume Twelve, and assigned points to every editorial photo it could find�just so you could know which rider and which team really got the shots this year.

To calculate the scores, the WFEOM assigned points as follows: cover = 2,000 points, pull-out posters = 2,000 points, spread = 1,000 points, full-page-plus-a-column = 700 points, full-page = 500 points, half-page = 200 points, half-sequence = 200 points, quarter-page-or-less action shot = 125 points, and mug shots = 100 points.

Note: Team riders jump willy-nilly from board sponsor to board sponsor in the off-season, so the team each rider was on for the majority of the season got credit for that rider�s points.

Now that the preamble is out of the way, SNOWboarding Business is proud to announce the winners of the inaugural World Famous Exposure-O-Meter� Year-End Award Extravaganza!

The �Most Photographed Rider� Award

Forum�s Bjorn Leines dominated a field of 413 snowboarders by snagging 18,000 points in a total of eight different issues. The year was highlighted by Leines� 7,250-point issue (Snowboarder, Volume Twelve, Number Two) with that wacked soccer goal-post rail slide.

K2�s Travis Parker slid into second place with 13,650 points. You could hardly find a issue of TransWorld SNOWboarding or Snowboarder last year that didn�t have at least one Parker two-page spread.

Rounding out the top three is Terje Haakonsen, with 13,075 points. Out promoting his movie, Terje was on the hill a bit more than he has been lately�and it seems to be paying off. It also seems every Terje photo that was available instantly found a home in one of the magazines, proving that the cult of personality lives on.

Top Five Women

You didn�t have to look too far down the main list of riders to find the top-ranked women. GNU�s Barrett Christy landed in 23rd place overall with a total of 5,825 points. Sims� Tina Basich was close on Christy�s heels with 5,675 points, and Tara Dakides (who seemed the most videographed women rider in last year�s films) landed in third with 4,875 points. They were followed by Nitro�s Nicola Thost (4,500 points), and Burton�s Nataza Zurek (3,400 points).

The �Best (And Biggest) Team� Award

With 21 riders in the top 101, Burton dominated the race for most team photos with an astounding 93,475 points. That�s the equivalent of nearly 187 pages of Big-B action in last year�s magazines. With a roster that included Terje (13,650 points), Michalchuk (10,850 points), Marcus Egge (10,200 points), Dave Downing (8,075 points), and Keir Dillon (5,825 points), it�s no wonder.

The �Best (And Smallest) Team� Award

Eight of Forum�s team riders cracked the top 101 rider list and averaged more than 7,900 points each, giving the brand a total of 63,250 points. Lead by top-point-getter Leines, the other Forum riders in the top 101 included Devun Walsh (9,525 points and ninth place), Jeremy Jones (8,825 points and eleventh place), J.P. Walker (7,050 points and sixteenth place),Wille Yli-Luoma (6,550 points and seventeenth place), Peter Line (6,075 points and twentieth place), Joni Malmi (5,625 points), and Chris Dufficy (1,600 points).

The �One Man Band� Award

Who needs a huge team when you have one rider who pulls in a truckload of coverage all by himself? Random, Elan, and Option might only have one rider in the top 101, but it�s quality over quantity. Max Jenke nabbed 10,200 points for Random, Mike Basich brought home 10,025 points for Elan, and Kevin Sansalone gathered 7,150 points for Option.

The �This Area For Rent� Award

J2 managed to accumulate 5,525 points last year and landed in 29th place, so why doesn�t he have a board sponsor?

The �Doing A Lot With A Little� Award

Max Jenke only appeared in four issues last year, but that was enough to land him in fifth place with 10,325 points. Wille Yli-Luoma did Jenke one better, garnering 6,550 points in only two appearances.

The �Mr. Consistency� Award

Sure, making a splash in one issue is fine, but getting the shots issue after issue is where it�s at. And if it�s consistent coverage you want, then Devun Walsh and Josh Dirksen are your men. Both of these riders were in eleven issues last year. Marcus Egge, J.P. Walker, and Jason Ford were no slouches either�each appeared in ten different issues.

The �It�s Good To Be King� Award

Hey, it�s not all driving a desk. Even magazine editors get on the hill, and if a good photo of them pops up from time to time in the pages of their own magazine, hey it�s one of the perks of the job. Right?

Snowboarder Editor Rob Campbell had 300 points (good for an equal 282 place). Snowboard Life�s Associate Editor Robyn Hakes (225 points and an equal 308 place) beat out SNOWboarding�s Nate Yant (125 points and 361 place) and Snowboarder�s Mark Sullivan (100 points and an equal 390th place). But the boss hog media-maven is Snowboard Life Editor Kurt Hoy with 2,050 points and an 80th place.

The �God, Look At All Those Points In Just One Issue� Award

The Terje love-a-thon (otherwise known as the March issue of TransWorld SNOWboarding) gave the reclusive Nord 9,025 fame-maintaining points.

The �Media Sausage� Award

Snowboarders vied for a total of 609,100 points last year, and more than half of them were found in TransWorld SNOWboarding (347,950 points). Snowboarder trailed with 188,925 points, and Snowboard Life offered 72,225.
