New Management Team at The North Face Reflects Companys Stabilization

By Press Release

August 11, 2000

The North Face, a subsidiary of VF Corporation has announced changes in several key management positions, which are designed to support the companys turnaround strategy.

Michael Egeck has been appointed vice president of RD&D; and brand management. Most recently, Egeck was general manager at Columbia Sportswear where he was responsible for managing the companys sportswear division. As the most recent addition to The North Face management team, Egeck will help combine the efforts of the product development and marketing departments. In joining The North Face management team, I have an incredible opportunity to promote the most highly technical and innovative outdoor exploration apparel, gear and footwear in this industry, explains Egeck.

Egeck brings to The North Face over seventeen years of experience managing merchandising, design and operations in the apparel industry. Prior to his position with Columbia Sportswear, he was director of merchandising design and sales operations at Seattle Pacific Industries, Inc., a leading apparel wholesale company.

The appointment of Egeck follows the appointment of Dan Templin as chief financial officer and the promotion of Steve Rendle to vice president of sales. Templin was formerly CFO at VF Knitwear for two years where he helped design the strategic business review that reestablished profitability and sales growth. Prior to his position at VF, Templin held senior positions in finance and operations for LVMH Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton in New York and spent ten years at Nabisco Brands International. He has a Masters of Business Administration in Marketing and International Business from New York University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from Lehigh University. His financial business expertise and his familiarity with parent company VF Corporation will help Templin create a more precise business model tailored for the specific and current needs of The North Face.

Since his promotion to VP of Sales, Rendle has taken over the management of the national sales team and The North Face sales accounts, and focused the companys sales and distribution strategy on The North Face core customers. Prior to his promotion, Rendle managed some of The North Faces largest accounts, including REI and Nordstrom. Having been affiliated with The North Face and its vendors for more than ten years, Rendle brings extensive industry and sales expertise to company.

Karl Heinz Salzburger, president of The North Face, has been working with these new executives and with VF Corporation to ensure that the companys highly technical and expedition-based tradition will remain. During the three years proceeding his appointment to president, Salzburger was CEO of the companys European operations.

With the appointment of Mike and Dan and the promotion of Steve, our management team is equipped to promote growth, stability and The North Faces traditional exploration-based heritage. said Salzburger. Mike brings his extensive knowledge of the outdoor retail and sportswear market, Dan his familiarity with VFs financial operations and Steve his sales strategy and relationships with The North Face sales team and buyers. With this kind of rich business and market knowledge, outdoor industry experience and familiarity with The North Faces core customers, we will reaffirm our position as the industry and market leader.
