PR: Outdoor Retailer On-Snow Demo relocates to The Canyons

11/18/98 Outdoor Retailer On-Snow Demo relocates to The Canyons

LAGUNA BEACH, CALIF. ‹ The Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, the world¹s largest outdoor industry trade show, will return this January to the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City with the best and brightest of next year¹s outdoor goods.

But the On-Snow Demo is moving.

Relocating to The Canyons Ski Area in Park City for the first time, the On-Snow Demo ‹ a genuinely ³interactive² trade show ‹ is a favorite of buyers and media eager to check out next year¹s goods in a true outdoor setting. Slated for Jan. 28-29, 1999, the On-Snow Demo is expected to feature more than 60 companies, including industry leaders in cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, telemark skiing and snowboarding.

Wintersports, from cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to backcountry snowboarding, continue to be at the very core of Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. The On-Snow Demo is the primary place for the entire industry to test these products. And this year the demo will be more exciting than ever, with a new location, great test areas, a killer party on mid-mountain and, above all, heightened industry interest, said Dieter Tremp, Outdoor Retailer Show Director and Publisher of Outdoor Retailer magazine.

The Canyons ‹ formerly known to Utah locals as Wolf Mountain ‹ will host the On-Snow Demo in the midst of their rapid transformation toward becoming an international destination resort. In less than two seasons since being purchased by the American Skiing Company, The Canyons has added nine lifts and 1,200 new acres of skiing terrain.

Of course, once the business of the On-Snow Demo stops for the day, the festivities begin. The annual Outdoor Retailer Apres-Ski Party, co-sponsored by Norwegian Ski Council, lights up the night on Thursday, Jan. 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. The party will be held at mid-mountain in the Red Pine Lodge, with all the guests taking the gondola up the slope to indulge in the traditional fare of smoked salmon and aquavit.

The Outdoor Retailer Winter Market Booth Show runs Jan. 30-Feb. 2, 1999, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, drawing an estimated 800 exhibitors, 5,000 specialty shop buyers and 200 media members. Outdoor Retailer is a division of Miller Freeman, Inc., located at 310 Broadway, Laguna Beach, CA 92651, (949) 376-8155. Information is also available at www.outdoorbiz.com.
