PR: Rossignol First Quarter Sales Down
Asian Flu affects French company.
(7-29-98)

The French snowboard and ski manufacturer, Rossignol, announced that sales were down 16.1 percent in its first quater. The decrease was due to low demand from Asia, the company reported.

Sales were at 216.1-million French francs, (36-million dollars U.S.) in the three months ended June 30, compared to 257.7-million francs for the same period in 1997.

Rossignol also blamed last year's loss to weak sales in Asia and is forecasting continued slow demand in the region this year. For the year ended March 31, the company reported a loss of 3.4-million francs, compared to a profit of 76.1-million francs in 1997.

The Japanese market accounted for seventeen percent of Rossignol's sales last year, compared to 21 percent the year before. The company also makes and markets snowboards under the Rossignol and Original Sin names, Rossignol and Dynastar brand skis, in-line skates under the Hypno and Rossignol names, and Cleveland golf clubs.
