PR: Dodge Ridge Announces Expansion
by John Stouffer (8-28-98)
(Press Release, August 28, 1998)•Dodge Ridge Ski Area in Pinecrest,
California announced details what owner Frank Helm says will be largest single
expansion in California for the new season. The 3.5-million dollar project opens
up 265 acres of new terrain in Boulder Creek Canyon that skiers and riders raved
about on cat tours last winter.
In one fell swoop, the ski area is erasing its "not very challenging" image
and moving from a small family operation to a mid-size family resort that will
compete with the Lake Tahoe resort destinations. Dodge Ridge is the closest snow
to most of the Bay Area.
Included in the project is a 1,100 foot fixed grip Garavanta CTEC quad,
dubbed The Canyon Lift, eighteen new trails (the total is now 60), a doubling
the size of the Creekside Cafe and expanding the deck by 3,200 square feet, and
more.
"We are taking a major step in improving the skiing and snowboarding
experience and changing the way Dodge Ridge is perceived," Helm said. With a
trend toward resort consolidations into major corporations, the Dodge Ridge
expansion is unusual and important in the ski industry and to the sports'
participants.
