Jacoby Hits Snowboard Podium Again During Slalom In Japan

SUNDAY, Feb. 11, 1996

NAGANO, Japan -- Former world snowboarding champion Mike Jacoby (Hood River, OR) reached his second World Cup podium in 24 hours Sunday, leading for U.S. riders into the top15 as he finished second in a slalom on the proposed Kanbayashi Olympic course.

In the women's event, Stacia Hookom (Edwards, CO) was second behind German Heidi Renoth. Renoth's two-run time was 1:32.72 with Hookom runnerup in 1:33.58.

Matthias Behounek made it a German sweep by capturing the men's slalom. His time was 1:26.82, putting him .13 ahead of Jacoby, who won the GS Saturday to further pad his lead in the World Cup giant slalom standings.

Other Americans in the top-15: Antonio Davila (Flagstaff, AZ), 10th in 1:28.56 with Tom O'Brien (Salt Lake City) 12th and Anton Pogue (Hood River, OR) 14th.

The World Cup visit to the '98 Olympic site where snowboarding will make its Olympic debut ends Monday with halfpipe competition.
