Jacoby Ties For Snowboarding World cup
Giant Slalom Win In France

LA BRESSE, France -- Reigning World Cup snowboarding champion Mike Jacoby
(Hood River, OR) sizzled through the second run Friday to tie Austrian Peter
Pechhacker for a giant slalom victory in LaBresse.
Jacoby, who pulled a muscle in his during training Thursday, had been sixth
in the first run behind teammate Tom Lyman (Whitefish, MT) but he moved into
a tie for the top spot with a two-run time of 1:19.56. Bill Enos (Waterville
Valley, NH) finished fourth.
Sondra VanErt (Ketchum, ID) won the first run of the women's GS but crashed
on her second run. Karine Ruby of France won with Stacia Hookum (Edwards,
CO) posting the top U.S. result in sixth place while VonErt recovered from
her spill to finish ninth.
In a related announcement, Coach Peter Foley said Rob Berney (also Whitefish)
sprained an ankle in training Wednesday and may not ride again until the
World Championships, which are scheduled for Jan. 22-28 in Lienz, Austria.
