Larry Jackstien has been appointed to the position of managing director of sales and marketing for Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort.

Reef Brazil has brought Aldon Cole on as its new team/promotions manager. He will handle Reef’s team of 182 athletes, from promotion to coordinating contests and photo and video trips.

SIA announces several additions to its staff. Marty Grabijas is the new director of sales and support replacing Bill Travis. He comes from the American Canoe Association and previously held sales positions at both Leki-Sport USA, Inc. and The Ski Market. Kirby Vernon fills the position of manager of market development and promotions. He comes from Airwalk’s promotion’s department and has a diverse background in sports marketing. Tedann Olsen undergoes a title shift to manager of marketing services and communications. Ali Zacaroli was recently promoted to manager of public relations, where she will take charge of SIA’s public-relations projects. And Wendy Bowers was promoted to full-time accounting clerk after working part-time as an intern at SIA for the past year.

Carl Helmetag, president and CEO of Head USA, was recently named SIA chairman of the board. In addition, SIA announces the appointment of the board of directors for 1998/99: Perry Gladstone, president of Limited Snowboards, Inc. will act as secretary; Jake Burton, Burton Snowboards, as first vice chairman; and Emily Merrill, Turtle Fur Company, as third vice chairman. Other members include: Edward Kiniry, president of Tubbs Snowshoe Company; Darcy Lee, president of Cold As Ice, Pixi, and Stardust; David Kick Schubert, president and CEO of Alpine Design; John Schweizer, president and CEO of Garmot USA, Inc.; and Richard Zuckerwear, chairman and CEO of Grandoe Corporation.

After eight years with H.O. Sports, manufacturer of H.O. Waterskis, Hyperlite Wakeboards and Snowboards, John Hatcher is leaving to start his own company. He will be working as an independent broker for several factories throughout Southeast Asia specializing in nylon and neoprene products. Hatcher has spent the last four years as product manager for Hyperlite Snowboards, boots, and bindings. For three years prior to that, he was the wetsuit product manager sourcing materials and factories throughout Asia. Several announcements have come out of Avalanche Snowboards recently. Tom Burt has signed a two-year team-rider contract with the company. Burt and Avalanche have begun discussing ideas for an expanded Avalanche snowboard series designed for top performance in steep conditions–what the company is calling "fall-line snowboarding."

Avalanche also announces the hiring of Mike Kennedy as the new Rocky Mountain sales rep. He has been a tech rep for the company for three years and also reps for Swag/Prom Clothing and Zeal Optics. And congratulations go out to Director of Sales Julie Yarbrough on her recent marriage to Dan "The Man" McKechnie.

Ride Sports announces promotion of Gretta Brumbach to marketing services director.

The company also announces the addition of Macy Price of Salem, Oregon to its team of professional riders. This past March she competed in the U.S. Open at the young age of fourteen.

Limited Snowboards announced the appointment of Paul Lockington as sales manager. Limited also announced the appointment of new sales reps. Fila USA announces the promotion of Lee Turlington to senior vice president/general merchandising manager of Fila Apparel. He will be based in the Sparks, Maryland corporate headquarters and will report to Alberto Verdi, executive vice president of Fila Apparel. Previously, Turlington was senior vice president of Fila Outdoor and Winter Sports, a division he launched in 1994.

United Rider’s Clothing introduces Katia Brascoup as its newest team rider. She has a background in design and will be helping the company with its apparel designs as well. Dave Boyce, a long-term rider, will also hold the position as team manager and head of sales and marketing.

Nixon Watches welcomes two new members to its nascent staff: Danielle Edmunds has been brought in as office manager; and Henning Erlandsen will be holding down the fort for Nixon in Europe, coordinating the company’s distribution and marketing efforts abroad.

Columbia Sportswear Company has hired Wolfgang Fischle for the newly created position of country manager for Germany and Austria. Reporting directly to Director of Operations, Canada and Europe Doug Hamilton, Fischle will also be working closely with the company’s European officers headquartered in Strasbourg, France. Fischle will oversee all sales and customer-service issues in those two countries.

Other Columbia news, Sherrie Curtin was recently hired as senior merchandiser for the women’s division, handling direction and implementation, pricing, and key account presentations. And Beth Brownlee is the new footwear sales specialist, responsible for managing key accounts and footwear sales staff in the eastern region of the U.S.

NHS annonces the recent marriage of two employees–Tricia Martorella, adminstrative and credit assistant, and Marty Proctor, Santa Cruz Snowboard sales manager.

Robert B. Linde has been hired as the National Ski Areas Association director of marketing. He will be responsible for managing SnoBlast, NSAA’s continuing national marketing campaign aimed at ten to 23 year olds, which debuted during the 1997/98 season. Linde’s additional responsibilities will include developing sponsorship programs to benefit the NSAA membership, along with creating and implementing national programs to enhance and promote snowboarding and skiing.

Daphne Bowles has been hired as the new regional sales manager and trade-show director for Mountain Shades, makers of Jane Doe and Optic Nerve eyewear. Bowles will oversee sales efforts in the Rocky Mountain region and manage the company’s expanding trade-show activities. She will work closely with Customer Service Director Carrie Benway on all aspects of the shows, from booth concepts and product management, to making infamous feather-boa-clad appearances as "Jane Doe" at industry parties.

Booth Creek Ski Group, the holding company for Booth Creek Ski Holdings, Inc., recently announced that Tim Petrick, executive vice president and chief operating officer of BCSH, was elected to its board of directors. He joins the following board members: George N. Gillett, Jr.; Gregg Engles, chief executive officer of Suiza Foods of Dallas; Jeff Joyce, executive vice president of finance for BCSH; and Dean Kehler, managing director at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Oppenheimer in New York City.

Booth Creek also announces the appointment of Rick Kelley as general manager of Loon Mountain Resort. He will be responsible for all aspects of the resort. And Laura B. Moriarty has been promoted to corporate vice president of human resources. She will report to Petrick.

Poullioux Sporoptic, the international parent company of Vuarnet Optical, recently announced the appointment of Joseph Hatchiguian as CEO of Vuarnet USA, the United States distributor of the original Vuarnet lens and brand, and the chairman of Pouilloux Sporoptic.

Hatchiguian designated Harold Page as vice president of sales and marketing for North America. He will work from the Los Angeles office for Vuarnet and report directly to Hatchiguian in Paris.

Page hired Aimee Perkowski as marketing manager for Vuarnet Optical. She most recently served as public relations manager for Arnette Optic Illusions, Inc. Page also hired Dana Poore as the Southeast regional sales manager. Poore has been a sales rep for the Vuarnet brand since 1991 and will now manage the following areas: South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Florida, and all of the Caribbean.

Marybeth Rizzo has been named as East Coast regional sales manager for Vuarnet Eyewear. She brings more than fifteen years of experience in both retail and manufacturing for the optical industries.

CB Sports, a division of Snowmass Apparel, Inc., announces the appointment of Jim Cyr as chief operating officer for CB Sports. Cyr will be responsible for managing all aspects of CB Sports’ business.

Marker International has announced several executive appointments to expand operations and strengthen its senior management team. These appointments include: Kevin Hardy as chief financial officer of Marker International, Salt Lake City, Utah; Michael Kamm, chief operating officer of Marker Germany, Eschenlohe, Germany; and Shaun Morris, president of Marker Canada, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

John Lessieu has been named national sales manager for Spoon, high-performance sports fashion watches by Pulsar.

Peter Bartlett has been named director of sales for the optical division at Bollé America. He will be responsible for all Bollé eyewear products sold through U.S. optical distributors and sunglass-only stores.

Ortovox has announced an agreement to allow Rossignol’s Western independent snowboard reps to sell the complete line of Ortovox safety equipment to snowboard retailers. The new reps are: Dave Bryson covering Colorado and New Mexico; Ron Craig covering California and Nevada; Dan Gingrich covering lower Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Utah; and Shane Lebsack who will cover Oregon, Washington, Upper Idaho, Hawaii, and Alaska.

Helly Hansen has announced the hiring of three new rep groups: Kate Hasterlik covering Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah; Ron and Brenda Frongillo covering Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Mississippi; and Ciaran McDonnell covering Southern California and Arizona.

Jackson Hole Ski Corporation recently announced its decision to create a new corporate division to focus on planning and development. Peter Forsch will lead this effort under the direction of JHSC President Jerry Blann.

Audrey Perlinger has been promoted to assistant marketing director for the Professional Ski Instructors of America, American Association of Snowboard Instructors, and the National Ski Patrol. In addition to her departmental duties, Perlinger now has increased responsibility for initiating, implementing, and servicing advertising and sponsorship relationships for all three organizations.

Wave Rave snowboard apparel announces the addition of Kim Glathar to assume the duty as head designer for Wave Rave and Magnus. She’s filling the shoes of Natalie Murphy who has moved on to head up Quicksilver’s program.

Robert Hampton has been named division manager for specialty sports eyewear at Bollé America.

Split Clothing announces the addition of several new reps. Dale Rhodes and Joe Seemoyer of the 215 Marketing Group are now representing Split in California from the 605 freeway to San Luis Obispo.
