Backcountry Access has received certification to export the new Tracker DTS avalanche beacon into the European Economic Community (EEC). AccuWeather’s new online Winter Center provides detailed and accurate forecasts at: www.accuweather.com. The site includes information for 55,000 cities worldwide as well as hundreds of ski resorts across the United States. There are long-range snow forecasts in addition to AccuWeather’s TravelWeather graphics. Ride Sports Announces First Quarter Results

Ride Sports (NASDAQ: RIDE) announces its financial results for the first quarter ended September 30, 1998. Net income for the quarter was 1.5-million dollars on sales of 18.4-million dollars, compared to net income of .7-million on sales of 18.2-million for the same period in 1997. Primary earnings per share were $0.12 versus $0.06 for the same period in 1997. On a fully diluted basis, earnings-per-share were $0.10 versus $0.06 for the comparable period in 1997.

Ride also announces it has signed a licensing agreement with Atomic Austria GmbH to market Ride’s patented Device step-in snowboard boot and binding interface under Atomic’s Oxygen brand.

Columbia Sportswear Company Reports Strong Results For Third Quarter

Columbia Sportswear Company (NASDAQ: COLM) announces record net sales of 173.9-million dollars for its third quarter ended September 30, 1998, an increase of 12.8 percent over net sales of 154.2-million dollars for the same period of last year. The company reports net income for the period of 22.9-million dollars, or $0.90 per diluted share, which represents an increase of six percent when compared to pro forma earnings of 21.6-million dollars, or $0.85 per share for the third quarter of 1997.

The company attributed the increase in net sales to strong growth in its European and Canadian businesses, which were up 88.4 percent and 22.3 percent respectively. For the nine months ended September 30, 1998, Columbia Sportswear has reported net sales growth of 22.3 percent and pro forma net earnings growth of 28.6 percent.
