PR: "Boarding School" How-To Video Provides
Fun, Excitement and Tips for Snowboard Beginners
(November 17, 1996)
Boarding School," the newest release from Wehman Video, teaches beginning
snowboarders the essentials of snowboarding and emphasizes what the sport
is all about- fun. Greg "Cheeseball" Daniells, a well-known instructor at
Whistler Mountain, provides useful snowboarding techniques with the help
of humorous soundbites, zany video clips and a diverse music soundtrack that
keeps viewers entertained as well as informed.
"Boarding School" demonstrates the relationship between body action and board
movement from weight distribution on the board to maneuvering down the mountain.
It covers what to wear, types of boots, how to fall (rock and roll), how
to use a chair lift (sit down), how to stop, how to turn and much more. Daniells
demonstrates these simple techniques with his students and performs more
difficult tricks for aspiring snowboarders. As the video states, "With some
patience and a little practice, you'll be disco dancing with the best."
The video also contains vintage film footage, on-hill interviews with other
snowboarders and fast-paced snowboarding scenes. One segment, titled In the
Beginning, features black and white "archival" footage from the 70's of the
first daredevil snowboarders risking their necks on boards made of wood.
"I wanted to provide an educational and fun learning tool, as well as to
promote safe and responsible snowboarding for those people just starting
out," says director Taylor Moore.
Snowboarding is increasing in popularity as more skiers and recreationalists
take up the sport. "Boarding School" provides an informed, safe step forward
for that first push-off down the slopes.
