A crevasse on the Hintertux glacier in Austria claimed the life of
snowboard filmmaker Chris Robison last Thursday, October 16th. Robinson
is best known for his work as director and main filmer of the Fusion
Films video "Nobody's Heroes." According to the information received by
John Nelson at Fusion Films Robison was reportedly on the mountain alone
at the time of the accident.
"We were told that he was just wrapping up the day's filming by getting
some scenery shots, then he was going to head right down after everyone,"
said John Nelson.
Robison apparently was in Austria filming with European riders like Tero
Ainonen and Tomi Toimenin for a new video magazine he was putting
together. No one realized he was missing until after dark when he still
hadn't shown up in town. A search party was sent out the following
morning and he was found. His body was retrieved from the crevasse and
brought back down the mountain.
Currently the Robison family is trying to retrieve his remains from
Austria, but due to international laws there have been some hold ups in
the process. Chris' brother Craig Robison said that they are looking at
scheduling a memorial service next week sometime in Huntington Beach, CA.
"Chris had a lot more friends than we ever realized," his brother told
SOL. "He was a wonderful young man with a bright future in the
snowboarding/skateboarding industry. His new video [Nobody's Heroes] was
one of his finest works ever and we hope to help get it out there to the
public. Maybe this will help get other snowboarders to be safer out
there."
Stay tuned to SOL for more information on this and more details on where
his film "Nobody's Heroes" can be viewed.
